Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., has updated its Build-Your-Own FT-IR website. The site offers many options for configuring the high-performance Thermo Scientific Nicolet 6700 FT-IR spectrometer so any laboratory can design the ideal FT-IR to meet its unique analytical challenges. This flexibility, which includes several optical component options that span the full range of applications involving infrared spectroscopy, is especially important in quality control, analytical services and research environments.

The Build-Your-Own FT-IR microsite demonstrates the versatility of the Nicolet 6700 spectrometer by matching specific sample types with component and accessory options that provide the best results.
The new microsite offers users information about the function and benefits of each component. Each accessory is matched with the type of sample the customer plans to analyze, allowing them to construct an instrument with the perfect combination of components and accessories. Items can be added or removed any time during the configuration process.
The Nicolet 6700 spectrometer combines analytical performance and reliability. Easily exchanged sampling accessories and optical components, combined with powerful Thermo Scientific OMNIC software, provides enormous flexibility and problem-solving capabilities. The microsite provides highlights of the entire OMNIC software suite, including the groundbreaking Thermo Scientific OMNIC Specta software for analysis of mixtures. For customers new to FT-IR, the microsite contains an introductory guide to the technology.
"The Build-Your-Own FT-IR microsite offers increased flexibility and control for our customers," said Brian Davies, vice president and general manager of molecular spectroscopy and microanalysis, Thermo Fisher Scientific. "It is easy to use and comprehensive, providing access to a reasonably priced, compact instrument so that even non FT-IR specialists can begin benefiting from this powerful technology."

Dolomite's world leading thermal bonding process, allows the creation of complex and leakfree microfluidic structures with electrodes from as small as 2μm. An additional layer of PECVD oxide or PECVD nitride can be applied to the electrodes for insulation. Available in a wide range of materials, including platinum, copper, titanium and gold, the electrodes can cover up to 50% of the microfluidic chip (when bonded).
For further information on Dolomite's custom capabilities and the complete portfolio of microfluidic products, including easy-to-use connectors/interconnects, pumps, valves and pressure/flow rate sensors, view website: www.dolomite-microfluidics.com Refer to page 343

InaChem appoints Phoenix MarCom as exclusive European agent
InaChem, the Indonesia International Chemical Exhibition and Chemical Engineering Conference, has appointed marketing communications specialist, Phoenix MarCom of Cambridge, UK, as its exclusive European agency to promote the organisation's exhibition and conference in 2012 to European companies. Phoenix will also be able to provide various support services to any European based exhibitors that sign up for the event.
The event, hosted jointly by the Federation of the Indonesian Chemical Industry (the umbrella association comprised of 30 Indonesian chemical associations), the Indonesia Institution of Chemical Engineer, and the Ministry of Industry of Indonesia, is set as the main meeting point for industry players to serve the growing demand for chemical products, services, and technology in Indonesia and South East Asia region.

InaChem is the largest chemical industry event in Indonesia and the 2012 event will be the second since its launch in 2010 which featured 130 exhibitors and attracted more than 4,500 high-calibre visitors from 13 countries.
InaChem focuses on a diverse range of chemical and process engineering technologies which include: chemicals and raw materials; pharmaceutical processing equipment; oils and fats; laboratory equipment and technology; coatings and surface protection materials and equipment; chemical process equipment and engineering machinery and systems; recycling and treatment technologies as well as biotechnology solutions.
Malcolm Lee, Phoenix MarCom's business development manager, said: "The chemical sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Indonesia where currently nearly 60% of manufacturing and production process technology and equipment is imported from overseas. With a population of 240 million people, Indonesia is the largest market in Southeast Asia and represents the fastest growing economy after China and India".
Phoenix MarCom's managing director Paul Carter, commented: "Phoenix MarCom has been selected by InaChem to support the Indonesian event's sales and marketing process in Europe because of our proven track record of working with multinational high tech companies and our specialist knowledge of how to organise marketing programmes of major international technology exhibitions in the process engineering and laboratory market sectors. I've personally been marketing and managing international exhibitions for more than thirty years. All our clients have benefited from our total management approach to event organisation. We are looking forward to helping European organisations make the most of their presence at this major Asian event".

Enhanced materials manager capability in Qualoupe LIMS ....... a Problem Solved!

An enhanced materials manager capability has been introduced to Two Fold Software Limited's innovative Qualoupe LIMS solution which enables users to easily define the wide variety of materials that they test in their organisation.
The materials manager application allows manufacturers to manage data relating to raw materials, finished products and intermediate products. For a commercial contract laboratory the enhanced materials manager software improves the handling of data from routine samples sent to them for testing by their customers. Many laboratories call these 'specifications' because they like to define what tests are performed when testing samples of a certain material type, and what acceptable limits are applicable to ensure the material meets the necessary specification.

The enhanced materials manager is an innovative Qualoupe LIMS solution enabling users to easily define the wide variety of materials that they test.

"Most LIMS in the market place cannot handle unlimited specifications for each material type," explained Clive Collier, Two Fold Software's Managing Director. "Companies who manufacture products for resale across the world are often faced with material specification limits that can vary for each country, even though the product is exactly the same. Label declaration limits, for example, may vary widely from country to country. When you cannot handle multiple limits in a LIMS the only way to cope with this requirement is to create multiple material records for each required specification, even if it is the same product being shipped. This often leads to coding issues because a means to differentiate each material specification is needed, and the administrative task to control all of these material records can prove a real burden".
Qualoupe's materials manager capability has been developed to ensure that there is only one material record that lists all the required specifications within the record. It also addresses another vital need relating to multiple specifications which occurs where a product is sold to multiple customers who require different limits and different Certificate of Analysis (COA) formats. To simplify the whole process Qualoupe has been developed to allow multiple customers to be linked to any of the specifications attached to the material.
When processing batches or single samples for a specific material, the user can select the specification to be used for processing that batch or single sample.
